Following the initiative set forward by the Board of Directors, the Schoodic International Sculpture Symposium has donated $3000 to the University of Maine Art Department. The donation submitted in late May 2018 represents a fulfillment of a major initiative to foster educational opportunities for sculptors in the state of Maine and to encourage the international exchange of artists. Jesse Salisbury, founder and Art Director of SISS said, “We would like to see international artists brought here to Maine, specifically to the University of Maine, to engage with students as this has always been a core part of our mission.” The funds may also be used to buy materials and equipment critical to teaching and safety in the sculpture studio on the UMaine Orono campus.  The SISS Board hopes that donation makes an impact and will keep working to find ways to encourage sculpture around the state.
